Defender 300tdi Alarm fob

Hi, all, I know it's a topic that's all over the place, but I cannot pin point an answer for my 1996 110 300tdi.

I've got a spare two button fob from LR and need to sync it to the alarm.
I thought I read that I could do it providing that I have the alarm code (which LR also provided for me) but I cannot find the thread/ article that gave the instructions.

So, can I do it myself without a computer?

No. It needs programming.

I have a 1996 300tdi and I took a new 2 button fob to my local auto electrician and im sure he just repeatedly pressed the buttons in a certain sequence whilst stood next to my Defender. Cant remember what he did though.

There's a company that you can rent the programming plug from. You have to give them a deposit so that you return it (it only works once apparently) but that will allow you to program a key fob that they supply

^^^Does the key come as a blank that you then have to get copied from your original key?

You buy a fob not the key

I was referring to their 'all in one key'. Just found this on their description..

This is the same as the standard key fob at the top of the page but the key and remote is all in one unit, the programmer is supplied with this key.

The metal key blade can be cut at any good high street or market key cutter by copying your existing key.

Hadn't noticed that actually.

Sounds like a good option, 1 less thingon your key ring
