Defender 200tdi power loss at top speed

Hi all,

I have a 1990 200tdi defender 90 and have recently noticed loss of power in top gear on the motorway where she loses power and then gets it back and looses it again. its fine below 60mph (does 70 flat out) but seems like a fuel starvation issue of some sort?

Also she has been getting hard to start where before she started first turn of the key no matter how cold. I don't know if these are related??

Can anyone help please.

Take the fuel filter OFF 1st ! Is it full? half full? may be ready for a NEW 1 NEXT lift pump how OLD? is it crackerd I think it's filter Some will have different opinions

Change the filter, not enough flow, cheap and easy to do then check lift pump as magic grotto says.

Thanks guys, I changed it in the summer but have ordered a new one to fit anyway. Will see if this cures the problem.
