Evening all, iv got a 1996 defender 110 county, few months ago we changed the transfer box after it blew itself to bits, since changing the box the lights have become more of a disco than practical for example when I switch the lights on or break the fuel gauge will drop to Past empty, hold the break pedal down and you can switch the headlights off and they will stay on. The left hand side lights have stopped working all together now, but when it was working it was really dim and would flash... iv checked all the earth points are connected but no luck, even gone to the extent of buying all new lights and new connections.... any help or Ideas would be much appreciated

Often down to bad earths. On some models the rear lighting is earthed via the transfer box- check that there aren't any ring terminals sat in midair.
Chances are power is flowing in the wrong direction through the lighting circuits to places it shouldn't.

I had a similar problem when I swapped transfer boxes, there are indeed 2 earth wires (black) going to 1 ring terminal and it bolts to the transfer box. NOTE if you removed your last transfer box with gusto you may well have ripped the terminals off so you'll be looking for just 2 black wires.

Are they kinda small thin wires as I have found tonight two small wires with no connection on it just hanging down? Wasn’t really surre where they go
