Hi all. I have a 1997/98 300tdi 110 csw. I've had her for about two years or so now and have steadily been working my way around required jobs. I've posted a few questions but don't feel I know enough to answer any thing yet.
My chassis is okish although the body mount is completely shot and there have been various patches to the rear x member and front outriggers at some point. It's a little tatty to be honest. I've managed to source a new chassis and have a few questions. I've trawled the other threads first and couldn't find the answers.
It was apparently bought unused from the mod a few years ago and then galved. It looks pretty good to be honest with no visible signs of work done. It is apparently the heavy duty mod version. Not sure how to confirm that though. It doesn't have a chassis number on the dumb iron either although some suppliers don't stamp them anyway apparently according to the interweb thingy.
All points on it seem identical to mine with the exception of the 4 body mount tabs on the back of mine not existing on the new one. The other difference which confirms it as military is the large hole in the rear x member on the new one. I have pics if it helps anyone.

Any thoughts or suggestions. The price is good enough to make it a worthwhile exercise.
Many thanks to anybody that has managed to stay awake this far

pics would be nice, a std 110 chassis differs from a station wagon by slightly different body mounts and a cross beam with body mounts which is a bolt on piece so transferable, or top put it more simply a 110 chassis with the same engine mounts is the same you just bolt on bits to suit different body types

Hi James. The bolt on body mount is one of the bits that it completely shot on my existing chassis. I know they're only cheap parts in themselves but there are a few nasty patches etc on the X member too that make me consider going all out and swapping the whole thing. My main concern although it may be a silly fix is the tabs at the x member. Is it just a weld them on job etc.

have you got any more pics of more of the chassis, thats a td5 chassis which uses a bolt strip that has the rear body mount tabs and uses a plastic fuel tank, engine mounts would need swapping but still basically the same chassis

Awesome. That's my one major concern sorted.
I assume. Asked on the hole in the x member it is def a military chassis. Did they make heavy duty and non heavy duty military models. Would you know if there is anyway to tell?

Fitting a galvanised chassis is a great way to prolong the life of your vehicle, and will usually increase it's sale value. The rechassis work is not complicated, but heavy - an engine crane is usually needed to swap the engine over. It's a great time to replace brake pipes, clutch plates, and any dodgy wiring while everything is easy to get at.

Hi James. Pics of engine mount

Hi. Just posted a pic of the engine mounts. I was told it was a 300tdi chassis and compared against mine to check. Looked the same but admittedly that was on my back under the old girl. Assuming they are different and it's not a 300tdi chassis how different are the mounts. Is it massively obvious to tell

thats a 300-tdi mount by the look of it but with td5 rear cross member, its either had mounts altered or cross member but besides needing the td5 tank everything else will bolt on

Ok. That sounds good. So in my fluffy world all I need to worry about is the bolt on strip at the back end for the body tabs tabs then. I'm certain I have a metal tank etc. Is that something I need to change or is it possible to get mounts for it. Sorry. Just want to make sure of the pitfalls before cracking onwards.

Lol. Sorry our messages seem to be crossing. That's good news. Sounds like a nice simple job with no problems then lol..... and then I remembered it's a Land Rover lol
