Hi all

Was out yesterday in very very deep water and mud and the clutch starting slipping for a while and then was fine. After looking under I realized i could see the fly wheel and there is a plate missing between engine and flywheel.

Its a defender 90 running a discovery 3.9 v8

I think what you are referring to is the threaded hole on the bottom of the bell housing. This hole is meant to be there and is not meant to have a plate welded over it. The hole is for the insertion of a threaded plug called a wading plug, the name of it should suggest as to when you should insert it. If you had done some research on your 90, before taking it off road, you would have realised that it is a good idea to insert this plug into your hole before things get wet & dirty. The use of extended breather pipes is also a good idea.:D

people will go offroading , or green laning without prior checking there landy to see if its up to the job. how many people fit 2" lift, snorkel, winch bumper all singing all dancing, and guess what they dont fit £6 worth of wading plugs:confused: and then wonder why there clutch is slipping ;) so before your nxt outing Taylor , spend abit of cash ........ NOW I WILL JOG ON...:D:D:D

now thats a very good point all the gear and no idea

its not a wading plug thats missing, there is a flat plate that covers the bottom of the bell housing where it is lower than the sump, have a look on eblag as usually some on there for sale got mine for about 3quid including the bolts which i think are whitworth so get the right ones as well
