Hi all, I've been trying without success to find a decent garage to do the MOT on my Disco v8 LPG !! In Leeds.
Had bad experience 2 yrs ago @ Adventure 4x4 Morley when they said it was ' beyond economical repair' and would cost at least £2500 to fix.
Funnily enough I went to Matt @ MYL in Huddersfield and it cost me & £500 and past with flying colours.
Does any one have any recommendations? For any garages ,cheap as just lost our jobs, in Leeds please. MOT runs out 15/1/14.
Any suggestions would be greatly accepted.

Thanks
Mike & Debbi

how about
Matt @ MYL in Huddersfield

Matt also runs busy shop display company, have contacted him and awaiting reply, plus would be less awkward if could find someone closer !!!
Also contacted guy who works Matt ! Said he'd do it but has now gone quiet & not replying to any questions ???
Please help !!
E mailed Simon Services,3 times but no reply, I can't call them during work hours.
Didn't think it would be this hard to find someone who's honest & needs the work !!!!

I don't wish to be thick but isn't the idea of an MOT to ensure you're vehicle is safe and roadworthy? If it becomes a cost cutting exercise then that could compromise that.

I've had 2 TDIs and both had MOT issues in the past so I'm not getting on my high horse, just throwing out an opinion. :D

+1

However, firstly I would never take my disco to a specialist as I believe rightly or wrongly that they would have more experience of faults on 4x4's so would know where to look and may be more harsh. Its not the mot that's more expensive its fixing the faults so I always go somewhere they don't do repairs so no reason to look for work;)

I always prep my car looking to find and fix the defects before the mot inspector and this very forum is the best assistance you will get for this.

If you present an unchecked vehicle for an mot then its always going to be expensive

Of course I want a road worthy safe vehicle but am sick of going to EXPERTS and being ripped off!!!
As stated before went to one garage that quoted 'beyond economical repair, but we could do the work for £2500 to pass MOT then went to another garage and they charged £500 and it passed that year then passed year after, after I replaced tailight bulb.

Think I'll do as suggested on go to council test station.

Cheers

I always thought it's up the person who has requested a quotation or who pays the bill to decide if it's 'economical', sounds as if the garage didn't want the job and so "boosted" the cost, as there is a very big difference in the price, assuming both garages are of a similar size, overheads etc.

I use an HGV place that does class 4's as well. I find they understand landys a bit more as they get ladder chassis's and axles on trucks so they know what to look for and aren't mystified by it (unlike kwik fit etc)

I always use my local kwik fit. They are very good and I haven't had a fail from them on any of my cars yet.

They also don't do welding or general garage work so have no interest in being picky.

They do point out anything they find like seeping oil seals or wheel bearings just starting to go.

Green Oval on Gelderd Road are Land Rover specialists they've always looked after my cars I have a 1995 Disco and they've seen to my Sport and my friends Range Rover as well.

Thanks for all responses, except odd guy from Wales who was obviously bored, most of us maintain our Landys all part of the fun of ownership!!!, am booked in to local authority MOT station(02/01/14) and will report the outcome fingers crossed,Green Ovalare excellent, but bit pricey for me @ present due to ill health/work probs, my brother won't let anyone else touch his Disco 3/4s even though he now lives in Leicestershire.
Happy Xmas to all.
