Hi,
My disco had an mot today. They told me that they got so far and aborted the test. The bad news was:

Holes in boot floor.

Body mounts.

Holes in sils near body mounts.

Cracks in bulkhead near mounts

also various other things I can't quite remember.

They told me it would more than the car is worth to fix it. Do you think I should just cut my losses and sell it on as a project, as I would not have the time or money to fix it. Or should I get a second opinion?

If it was me I would invest in a welder and learn to fix the body myself, think of the satisfaction.

(PS - Did you not check the underneath prior to the test)

Do you know anyone who can weld? Get them to have a look and maybe priceup.

Don't sell it to the garage that failed it, not unheard of to scare a punter out of a motor. Get a quote for a sale price from a couple of places first, but as has been said a good 200TDi lump can get £400ish.

Yes I did but didn't think it was that bad really!:)

Reminds me of the last time I put my SIII through an MOT. I couldn't believe the holes he found with his screwdriver! Could have sworn they weren't there the weekend before. And after I spent almost the whole day fixing the number plate light too!

Ignore what people are saying about it being worth lots in parts - its rotten and worthless.

I'll give you £100 for it :D

Ask for your test fee back-unless covered in **** they should not abort test. A valid mot fail should have a failure sheet.

with all that rust and holes.

if you dont know how to weld or dont want to learn/ dont have time.... just sell it as project.

will cost loads if you get a garage to do the welding.

they should have completed the test ..... you cant really decide whether its worth welding unless you know the state of the other critical bits...... if all else is ok it could be worth diy welding .... if it needs brakes,suspension/steering joints, tyres etc it may not be.

dont forget even 500 quid to weld it is better than 1500 for another one in the short term..... and theres no guarantee the new one wont need money spent next year.
