disco 2 is dead, (td5).
driven bout 10 miles this morning, then mum went to go blackberry picking this afternoon and it wouldnt start. it wont even turn over! what should i check? i did think the fan belt was loose because i heard squeeling, would this meen the battery hasnt been charging? thanks

My disco did the same!!!! set off for work, stoped the engine outside my mates house and when he came out i tried to start the engine and there was nothing. Changed the battery for a new one and its been ok for the last year!!!! How strange!

The battery light would come on if it was not charging, could be the imoboliser, or try giving the starter a hit with a long stick and a hammer.

radio waves sometimes activate the immobiliser, in what is known as dead zones, happened to me yesterday, rep had to re program it for me.

thanks guys, started second time this morning when the Britannia rescue bloke came, he said something about the 'exciter wire' on the starter motor.

Mine did a similar thing about 3 months ago, after being stopped for about 30 mins, it would not turn over at all. Traced (or so I thought) the problem to the wire to the starter solenoid having a dirty connection. all was well for a few weeks then same thing happened again.

This time I fitted a new spade connector, but after a few weeks, same problem. I did find if you left it a few mins and tried again, all was OK, so to isolate the problem to either the immobiliser or starter I rigged up a temporary warning light which operated when the key was turned to the start position. The theory being that if the light comes on when the problem is present, power must be reaching the solenoid so its not an immobiliser fault.

The light did come on when it decided not to start so I have fitted a new starter motor and fingers crossed its OK.
