I'm going to need to run a tap through the threads on the holder just to clean them up a bit.
Could someone confirm what size the thread is before I stuff it by running a tap with the wrong pitch through or some other similar incompetence?

Looking better. Don't worry, the bleed nipple is being swapped - this was to keep the thread clean. Blocked up the others with Blu Tack.

Would still like to know the caliper bracket thread size.....

After a couple of weeks away from all things Freelander I got back to it today. Ran a tap though the caliper bracket threads to clean those up, disks on, caliper brackets on, pads in place


I'll be buggered if I can get the caliper dust seal in place though!

The dust shields are a challenge. The trick is to fit them into the cylinder before fitting the piston. The hard part is stretching the inner ring of the dust shield over the piston without the outer section coming out of its groove.
Looking nice and shiny now though.

Cheers - I knew there must be a trick! They do look nice but I'm a bit peed off that its taken me so long to get round to it. Need to be less lazy.

If you thought anything of your audience (ie me) you'd get on with it!!!!!

I fitted mine on the bottom of the piston first then pulled the bottom edge out and fed it into the groove. Once it was in I pushed the piston in and the top edge slipped up the piston and into it's groove. Lots of brake fluid for lubricant.

Edit, I think I had to pull it on over the top of the piston and slide it down to the bottom so the top edge of the dust cover was in the right shape. From memory I may have refitted one side by fitting the shield to the caliper first but it was a pig of a job to get the piston into it. As I said before use brake fluid as lubricant.

I was going to have a crack this morning but have to look at my wife's Bimmer.

My wife's bimmer is showing a MAF code and running like a bag of spanners. We've been having a rat problem of late, but I'm hoping a chewed wire in an impossible to get at location isn't the culprit.

There are a lot about, my allotment is over run with them.

Never know anything like the rat population at the moment. We've had them in 3 car's this winter and I discovered that they had made nests in the trailer full of boot sale stuff. That all went to the tip this afternoon. Hence the need to get my tow bar fitted.

what I hate is how clever they are, Friday decided not to take the dog, two ran past me within five minutes. dog would have had em both if she wasnt sat in front the fire.
They were jumping in the corn bin and eating the corn, I put a fen trap hidden in the corn and they dont go in. How do they know, bloody things.

Cop out I know but the weather is getting better and I want to be out in it. Couple of events I want to get to!

BTW what kind of events you taking it to?

I'd like to make a couple of the LR events, Landyzone, Freelander Fest etc.

..and I'm going to have a final crack this weekend. Need to get the piston back out of the caliper to wrestle with the seal again. Brake fluid has already knackered the nice black paint I put on

Use compressed air if you can but be careful. Put in a piece of wood to stop it and keep your fingers out of the way.
Was changing brake pipes in my MGF last year and didn't notice a couple of drops landed on the boot.
Not nice.
