As I've just fitted a dash cam in my '59 L322 I thought I'd share the info on where to get the power for a hardwire kit as this question comes up all the time on all forums.

Usually I fit BlackVue cameras in my cars but a friend of mine put me on to the VIOFO units which whilst a bit Chinese-y seem to be really rather good for the money. and at well over £100 cheaper than my usual choice, I decided to give it a go.

I don't like the ones with screens as I personally think they are too small to be of any real use and too big to not be distracting at night, this one does have a screen but at least it can be set to turn off after 3s or not come on at all.
Also, I feel the rear camera is a bit cumbersome looking but it works and as someone suggested to me, if it's obvious, it may make someone think twice about their actions and prevention is better than cure...

Anyway, I'm not supposed to be reviewing the camera, so the detail you may want is here:

I used mini fuse piggy back connectors for mine as I was being lazy and they are quick and easy to do. 5a fuses in there and I found at least two unused location in the fusebox:

F18 = Unused Permanent Live
F53 = Unused Ignition Live

Run your cabling from the centre overhead console, down the A-pillar trim behind the airbag and you have everything you need right there.
T30 Torx to remove the A pillar trim once you gently pry out the Airbag labelled plastic cover.

Hope this helps someone out.
