it's called choice, I have fitted a new Clarion radio/cd player which has a blue display so I wish to change the rest of the dashboard/switch lights so it all looks uniform

What car?
If P38 I've done it and have a multi-coloured height switch.

Maplin sell micro 12v coloured bulbs that you can use to replace the originals in the switches. Similarly you can replace the leds in the height switch (soldering iron.)

Then I fitted white dials that glow blue at night with separately illuminated white needles.

I havern't yet done the HEVAC I'm waiting until the next time it's got to come out.

Where did you get the white dials from?

There's a company in Swindon who do them on ebay. They advertise that you can change them from blue to green but my old eyesight only saw blue and muddy blue.

I left the original instrument lighting in so that it still illuminates the needles and the wired the new dials from the dipped headlights. So if I just put on the sidelights only the needles illuminate, then with the dips on the dials come on but if I go onto full beam the dials turn off just leaving the needles. Ideal for night driving on country roads.

The needles are still dimmable on the standard dimmer switch and I 'cannibalised' the switchgear supplied with the dials to fit a separate dimmer just for the dials.

The bulb went on the clock in mine, it's such a pain to change that I fitted an ultra bright red LED into the bulb holder so I won't have to do it again. I will do all the lamps as they fail. cheaper than putting new bulbs in too.
It's possible to do blue, green or white as well as red.
