That dog looks like a little horse to me.

Not that big Hippo - he's a (mad) English Springer Spaniel who loves water.

Probably a perspective issue - the river is little more than a stream these days so quite small, but still deep enough in places for him to swim - which is great exercise when you throw stones a couple of feet upstream and he gives it 110% effort to get to them.

The Selwyn used to be the best Trout fishing river in NZ - but farmers have ruined that by extracting excessive water for irrigation, and sucessive governments have given them the green light to do so. Very sad really.
