Ok, nightmare to get old one off, bang\heat\10 ton puller\ combinations of all those, finally cut a slot in it and chiseled it off yeahhhhhh. Ordered part No. qfw000020, it dosent go up far enough on the splines?!!? Old one sat about 2cm from the box, this one is about 5cm away from the box??? Looks like a 4 bolt steering box to me and the part number is supposed to be correct, but bottom nut just goes on with no threads showing below, and when i put the ball joint on its about 2cm away from where it should be ffs??? Help please :(

put the new one on the same position the old one came off.
Looks exactly the same as the old one? But like i say, i dont think i should need to hammer the new one on as its a tapered spline?

I changed mine about 6 odd years ago and dont remember any hassle fitting it, can remember nut was tight

I will take a couple of photos later on to show what i mean, nut is on just flush with the bottom of the steering shaft. The split pin is 2 cm above the castle nut so is holding nothing??
Just looks wrong.........

Have a good look at the master spline, I would expect t to line up with the steering arm, yours looks one spline out.
The castellated nut on the ball joint could do with a thick washer beneath it, it's just going to pull loose as it is.
Make sure you tighten up the large nut on the drop arm to the correct torque, if you don't it will work loose and you will get tonnes of steering slop and possibly knacker the splines.

yup going back out to take off and clean and check everything again. Ball joint has the washer i just put it back in to show the gap. cheers all. Will just keep footering at it until i get it perfect.

Cleaned splines etc and battere the arm as far as i coud with a socket. Its on the spline 85% and ball joint finally happy with it. Took her for a test drive and all good, no play in the steering at all :). I rekon that arms been on since my landy was built and i was trying to get the arm to the same position. Anyway i will keep an eye on it, but as its a tapered spline the only way the drop arm can go is furhet towards the pump box. Anyway, Drop arm removal after 21 years on a landy, total ball breaker.
