I know there is a lot of fear about crank failure but when I look at the stats of how many D4 TDV6 HSE’s there were taxed from new after launch in 2009, of which there were 6426, there are still 5668 taxed and running 12 years later. An additional 184 are SORN. So that means at least 88% are still driving around. That’s impressive given the time period. That means 574 are truly no longer about. A fair % could have been run in to the ground, crashed/write off, exported etc. So the crank failure has to be low in real terms, perhaps 1-3%. How many of those were due to poor servicing too?

Crankshaft failure attracts a lot of posts on here and many originate by the unfortunate few that have had this catastrophe happen. It happens but is it as bad as we fear? I think the fear is worse than the reality based on stats.

Very interesting , so the TDV6 is the 2.7 engine and the SDV6 is the 3.0
