Hi guys. I have a ‘13 D4 whose tailgate is giving increasingly frequent problems. When you press the release switch on the tailgate or the fob you can hear the actuator work but the door doesn’t open. I’ve seen online that’s it was a common issue with the D3 and was caused by a worn actuator. I replaced the actuator and locking mechanism yesterday (new genuine Land Rover parts) but the problem is still the same. The last part of the whole mechanism is the switch itself but I thought since the key fob won’t open it either then the switch wasn’t the issue. Any ideas??

Load test the wiring at the actuator when you press the switch, sounds techy? but basically unplug actuator and stick a headlamp bulb into the wires, if it is nice and bright when switch is pressed wiring should bbe good and you have other issues.

hi mate

As a side note , always useto get confused with these, didn’t realise it was an actuator and switch for the top and then 2 x actuators for the bottomtailgate

Think I’ve got that right , lol

didn’t someone make an internal tailgate realise switch, also a heavy duty switch version .???

Do you know I have never given the bottom gate latches a thought!
One guy used some car release handle to make a manual gate release, and the extra bit of wire used as a pull is quite common in case it goes wrong again.
