Hi no issues for a while untill now my upper tailgate won’t open via boot switch , one day it didn’t work then worked few times now nothing , I replaced the switch still nothing but it always unlocks when I hold the 2 buttons in the centre console , does this mean it can’t be actuator ?

Tailgate wouldn’t open so I did the ‘get in the boot job’, spent a good out or so getting the boot open from the inside then fitting the actuator. Double checked the plug connection, put everything back together and boot still won’t open. I checked the cable and that looked fine. Apart from...

Yea I cleaned it up in past but this time just bought a new switch , no power from multimeter and touched wires together to bypass switch completely nothing , any suggestions on next step ?
I would be looking at the solenoid in the lower tailgate.
I’m going to follow gstuarts thread and look for wire breaks , how do I rule out actuator as this is all guess work never a quick find issue with this car lol

The actuator (solenoid ) for the upper tailgate if this was faulty would it show no power at the micro switch , not sure if the actuator powers the switch etc , just it’s awkward with kids and buggies with no easy opening boot I’m tempted to just order a actuator for delivery tommorow ? And try my luck ?
I took my actuator out for testing, and on first try to a battery is was weak but okay, every try after that it got weaker and weaker.
New one has been fine years on.
If you search on the d3forum, some people have added back up cable pulls to release tailgate should actuator fail again, one even fitted a really neat built in pull handle set up.

All done thanks to all for your help after new switch and actuator turned out to be a faulty wire ( gstuarts so right with the multimeter advice actually quite enjoyable tracing back wires and finding fault , not expensive parts so not all bad .. thank you lynall and gstuart great help as always
Where was the faulty wire? might come in handy for the future.
Behind the micro switch on the loom , was a pain had to drill out some screws to remove the bit that houses the switch and number plate lights due to corrosion , the wire looked ok tbh just a tiny tiny bit of visible corrosion , think I’m learning land rovers don’t like any defects whatsoever where wire is concerned .
