D1 200tdi turbo recommendations?

Hi all, I have a '92 (well also a '94) D1 200tdi & am after turbo recommendations?
my engine is using some oil and has a slight puff of smoke when pulling away from stopped, it is not breathing badly & has no lingering smoke on cold start-up so I believe the bores/pistons/rings & the valve guides/ oil-seals to be ok. however the turbo has some play in its bearings & I think that maybe a reconditioned or even a hybrid turbo may be on the list

before anyone shouts, I mention a hybrid as I use my D1 as a tow car so having low-end grunt as opposed to outright power is my aim (bloody hoss don't like going too fast! )

so, any recommendations guys please?

Is it passing oil?
A little play in the turbine shaft is quite normal.
Rough rule is so long as the turbine vanes are not touching the casing when pushed sideways with your hand and its not passing oil dont worry.
A slight amount of oil in the pipework is quite normal and can come from two places, 1 the turbo and 2 the closed crankcase breather system.
The smoke will be from your fuel system and not the turbo.
Air filter.
Injectors.
