hi all im having some issues with a 2000 disco td5 autobox .

(1) three amigos comming on while the vehicle is standing still ( like waiting at a red light )and sometimes when going over small road bumps and also ive just noticed if i press the off road setting for the air bags to raise and lower it the light come on .when i switch it off and start again the lights reset oh yea i forgot to mention the just ABS light stays on after starting the vehicle but goes out after you drive past 5-10 MPH

(2) the disco runs great but on the motorway if i try to overtake a vehicle and use the kickdown it doesnt really go the revs go up but the speed stays the same ( no its not slipping ,its got a recon autobox from ashcrofts ) the old box was doing the same thing one of the reasons the box was changed, but if i accelerate without kickdown it goes well .

any help on where to look to fix these problems will be great

Nr 1. is strange...i hope it's not a faulty SLABS ECU or some eldritch wiring issue...taking into account that this one is managing the ABS and the SLS and a SLS command is disturbing the ABS:confused: ....u better scan it first.

Nr 2. is beyond my kowledge

yea im trying to buy a Hawkeye but its just so much to get it shipped to me

i dont quite under stand are you saying it wont kick down when you floor pedal but will accelerate slowly the fact you have recon box doesnt rule out slipping,i would check oil by draining a little out but more likely ecu fault

it will kickdown into the lower gears but the speed doesnt increase . if you accelerate slow or fast without kicking it down into the lower gear it goes just fine . why i say the box isnt slipping is the old box was doing the same thing and it was and still is fine but it had other issues (leaks) .

ive added this to my orignal post

Thats not normal, and only ever happens on a Disco 2 when a sensor has been disconnected or is faulty. So it points to 1 of the 4 ABS wheel sensors.

With out diagnostics it will be difficult to tell, however if you have a multimeter, disconnect each sensor in turn at the wheel arch plug and measure the resistance across the sensor, they should be 960-1100 ohms, if any of them are above or below that, then thats your duff one.

Also check for play in all 4 of the wheel bearings as that can also throw the lights up.

I have the same issue with the 3 amigo's. I had the front offside sensor replaced 2 weeks ago because i was told it was faulty. Before it was replaced the lights were coming on straight away on start up, now they are doing the same as yours!

if you get yours fixed let me know what was done

just an update ive removed ,inspected, cleaned and tested all four ABS wheel sensors all were good in every way . wheel bearings good. took it out for a drive and no lights come up so i guess its sorted

still got the kick down issue and other little things to fix ....ahhh the joys of owning a landy ,you spend more time under them than in them :D

Had this problem with my D2. I'm lucky I've got a Nanocom. However, no faults were stored in the SLABS ecu. I suspected a front wheel bearing. So I did a sharp left turn whilst braking heavily - lights on & at last fault logged. Mine was the first warning signs of wheel-bearing failure. If it's on it's way out the bearing will change your ABS sensor air-gap which is critical. I did 1500 miles with ABS light coming on, always cleared itself when I switched off & moved again.
New hub cured mine, so put the bearings under a bit of strain & you might find your problem.
Hope this helps
Andy

Just a quick update. Took my D2 back to the garage for them to sort out the 3 amigos. I have the car back and so far no lights! I've been told the front offside wheel bearing is the issue and will need replacing. Also had the rear airbags done as the drivers side was dropping.

so they didnt replace the wheel bearing but the lights are gone

my lights still come on but i just have to wait for my hawkeye to arrive (dont know when that will be ) then i can narrow the problem down abit all my breaings seem fine ,no play at all .

as for my kickdown problem ive noticed when the mode button is pressed it goes to "S" sport but when pressed again it goes back to normal and not to 'M" manual mode so i suspect the trans ECU is the problem

You have probably already checked this but have you replaced the MAF sensor. Problem sounds very similar to mine from 18 months ago. Got a new one off Ebay from glowplugman1. Still working fine.

Just a thought:)
