I have a ,98 4.6HSE petrol/LPG, done 90K. Regularly take to reliable, local non franchised dealer.

Recently running rough with "ticking" noise from under bonnet, which he says is cylinder head gasket and will be fine after repair.

Friends tell me that problems will reoccur and should sell car, but I like her! Also just put new set of tyres on.

Has generally been good and reliable, and is relatively economical to run on LPG and runs well.

Any advice anyone?

Head gaskets are under constant high pressure and heat changes, so at some stage they weaken and break, provided the blown head gasket is dealt with fairly quickly, the new gasket should last many years. It’s only if the heads are left leaking for some time you can end up having problems. I.e. warped heads/ pits/ grooves ect ect, but these can be dealt with.
