CV joint rotational play

Hi guys

Currently in the process of rebuilding the front swivels on my defender 90. Should there be any play in the CV's, either in the straight ahead position or angled/articulated (as if turning)?

Seems minimal play straight, but when its angled seems to increase.

Just wondered if that's the nature of CV's.

Have you take the CV joint out and tested it in isolation?

I change them if there's any play. It's only going to get worse quickly with the balls hammering the slots.

edit. Pull the half shaft to isolate as @payydg suggests.
