Cutting 'superlock' cable

I read on an Australian forum that someone had cut the superlock cable which meant his P38 can only be locked normally. This would certainly prevent any chance of being locked out and having to smash locks, etc to get back in the car. Has anyone cut or disconnected this cable?

If you look inside the lock you can see the little cog. Just removing that might be a little more ... elegant?
