1997 P38 4.0 SE: Just sorting out my locking system. Front passenger door. There is a bundle of four wires (purple, black, 2x green/black) running down the rear of the door, below the lock and then inside the bottom of the door. The purple and black wires connect to two black wires via a 2-way plug and those two black wires then disappear into the harness. PROBLEM is that the two green/black wires have been cut. Looks like they are heading for another 2-way connector. That connector has 2 black wires coming out of it that have also been cut, with no sign of the ongoing wires. Any info on what these wires do would be very gratefully received.... Central locking does not work on that door but the CDL motor is open circuit and I have a replacement latch on order.

I cannot remember but it is possible they might be the superlock wires. In the electrical troubleshooting part of RAVE there should be a woring diagram. Somewhere on here are my tests when I was messing about with my central locking.

I keep seeing RAVE referred to but usually in the context of not being able to get access. What is RAVE? (Sorry if that is a dumb question but I am a new arrival on planet P38...)

It is your bible. No other text signifies. If you haven't got a copy then talk to your local Land Rover priest about how to redeem yourself and save your soul ... and your wallet. Although if you own a Range Rover the devil probably took both if them when you bought it.

And your sanity will join them shortly, that's why there's so much"banter" on here.;):D:Do_O

...love the banter. This place seems a fine haven for the obsessive, bewildered and downright desperate
..and the normal people like you...
Having bought a Japanese import from some specialists near York (yes, I now know), I am all of the above.
Apart from the "normal" bit of course.
The basics are good: no rust on top or underneath, Stratos wheels in good order, runs well, cat-back recent exhaust.
Working my way through the 30+ "issues" with which it arrived, and getting lots of help from this group, for which I am hugely grateful.
My recent "large car" history was a Merc G-Wagon, Volvo XC70 and now the 4.0 SE which is sooo much better than those lesser vehicles.
Ref RAVE - I already had the main workshop manual (via this Group) and now have the electrics manual, which is excellent.
