Hi everyone - I'm a new Range Rover owner and very happy about it. I recently purchased a 2009 RR Sport HSE and it has been (mostly) great the past two weeks...

Today on a drive, the cruise control turned on by itself and started to ACCELERATE on its own. I immediately hit the brake and it shut off (as cc should). Kept driving and a few minutes later, the same thing happened. I pulled over, shut the car off, and waited. Still, on my drive home, it did it three more times. Very dangerous and disconcerting. I am sure I did not hit the cc button by accident.

I've searched the internet looking for this same problem but can't seem to find it anywhere. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I am not a mechanic and will be bringing it to the shop where I purchased it tomorrow so any information I can bring to the mechanic will be most helpful.

One thing to note: I noticed last week that the cruise control would not turn on or work when I tried it on the highway.

Thank you!

Welcome to the mad house. Cruise control is no longer a simple function as it used to be. Sounds very dangerous. If the car was bought recently from a dealer, the dealer is liable to fix it at their cost.

Thanks for the welcome - I knew what I was getting myself into... I'm bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. Still haven't found a single thing online about this issue. I think this car might make a mechanic out of me

Welcome to the loony zone. As data says sounds extremely dangerous. I'd get the dealer to come and transport it back

I said this once before, one winter very cold one, I started it up (I think I put it into drive) and it just surges forward with no input from me, slammed my foot on the brake and stopped

And then what?? Did it ever happen again? It wasn't cold when mine did this - and it had been running for 45 minutes.

UPDATE:
When plugged into the computer, it gets error code:
P0579-29 "Speed Control malfunction"

We replaced the clock spring with one from another '09. That made the error go away and got the cc working again! I was driving home happily and all of a sudden, cc turned on by itself again and accelerated all by itself...

Brought it to a shop with a Land Rover computer so that we could disable the cc. For some reason, it was not allowing us to turn it off...

Going to bring it to an electrical specialist tomorrow to see if they can find anything.

If anyone has any insight or has ever heard of this issue, please chime in with any insight. Thanks and wish me luck

In all happened 2 time, always when very cold, and it was just from start up, I turned it off and started it up again, and it went
