right, here goes. my cruise control has never worked since i got my disco in january. its never really bothered me until i've done a couple of long journeys when it would have been handy.

anyway, after doing a search, i found that the usual suspect is split vacuum hose ends. after consulting haynes, i found where these bits are. or not...
the hose has been disconnected from the actuator. (obvious problem!) this hose then leads to a t-piece with only one other hose attached (both ends of hoses at t-piece split) this hose then leads to the vacuum pump, which is roughly where it should be but not fixed to anything- i assume it should be mounted, not just hanging loose??

my questions are-
a) why would someone just disconnect the hoses (other than can't be arsed to fix them)?

b) what should the other branch of the t-piece be connected to?

c) what else could be affected by this system being disconnected? (i haven't noticed anything...!)

If I remember correctly the other side of the t-piece goes to the foot break pedal. I have to check just before every long journey if all hoses are still connected!

Pump, brake pedal switch, clutch pedal switch, and the throttal-actuator are the points the vac hose connects to.
Cut off the split ends and wrap a few laps of pvc electrical tape around the tube ends and refit, u shouldn't get the problem again.

Good idea with the PVC tape. Not thought of that, all my hoses are getting short now. I have the auto so no clutch just brake pedal.

just been out with a torch and found the 3rd hose. it routed slightly different to yours in the pic, (in c-clips across the top of the bulkhead then through and down to the pedal switch) it looks as if the hose has perished and broken off about 8" from where it should be. therefore i'm going with the theory that a previous owner couldn't be arsed to fix it.
new hoses all round then! (probably only to find that vac pump or actuator or switch or any combination of the above are fecked as well!!)

Just like mine then, did the end trimming twice now and the hose length is on the limit and laid across top of the washer bottle instead of behind it, Lucky I haven't had to touch the brake-switch end yet.

If I had to replace the whole hose I'd go for the silicone stuff in a nice colour .... black :)

I'd go with that theory :)... the pump is mounted on the rubber grommets IIRC it's only three, anyway it was a fiddly thing to refit not hard just fiddly.

If I was replacing the hose I'd go for the silicone stuff you will require around 2.5m but as they only sell it by the metre 3, I make it around 4 to 4.5mm inside dia. what ever tube u go for make sure is OK for vacuum.

As far as the electrics go they don't seem to have any probs.
