My Freelander 1 was originally fitted with cruise control. When I bought it, the steering wheel switch was broken. I have replaced the switch with one from a donor vehicle. The centre console switch LED works OK.

I have noticed that the steering wheel switch has a very positive 'click'. Is this normal, or is it possibly a little sticky?

Any fault finding tips?

I think I have solved the problem by looking at the old (broken) switch. I intuitively pushed the switch with my thumb which results in a hard click as the retaining plastic pivot pops off/on it's positioning moulding. The switch is designed to be pulled (gently) towards you using the fingers (not thumb), this results in a nice soft click from the micro switch. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have done this. This piece of 'design' probably explains the large number of busted cruise control switches on these vehicles!

As the switch is mounted behind the wheel rim. It's kinda difficult to push it easily from the front. So pulling towards the driver with fingers from behind is the most natural action to make. ;)
