Cruise control faulty on TD5????

I have a 2001 TD5 and I use the cruise control a lot However i have noticed that every now and then usually weeks apart the cruise just packs up whilst driving .If i stop the car and re start it the cruise control starts working again What could this be????

Not sure really but worth checking the wiring and tightness of the connections to the steering wheel switch and dash switch.

it could be the rotary coupling under steering wheel, ecm picking up high resistance when you turn ignition off the problem is reset by the ecm, if you have cruise on in straight line try turning a corner to get the steering wheel to move and see if it turns off do all other steering wheel switches work ok for radio cheers tig

I had that exact same problem, driving through France last week. Restarting the engine reset it.
I found that if i used the brakes to come off the cruise instead of the res switch, it would trip it out in a realy ungracefull way with a thump.

I figured it was just an saftey overide to preserve the ECU computer, that triped out as a result of the thump.

Strange and also anoying as having to stop to reset it is a pain.

It's a very common thing, normally caused by 'dry' connections on the ECU. You can resolder them yourself and that should fix it. It's basically the same problem that you get with the 'spider'.
