Hi - my 109 series 3 currently has Avon Ranger Mk 11 750/16 C tyres all round, including brand new spare. There is enough tread to get through MOT coming up but will need 2 new rears (or 1 + spare) before next MOT or for serious mud plugging. Trouble is I can't find a direct replacement on the web, apart from some old ones on ebay that I don't fancy, and any threads on landyzone are old - anyone know where I can get Avon Rangers or, if no longer available, what is the best replacement crossply?
Cheers

All I know about Avon's is that they made tyres called 'speedmasters' for motorbikes, and were then named 'deathmasters' because they were forward treads like a push bike, lethal in the wet

Current ones are made by security, well my 6.00 crossplies were last year.
Wear really really fast 3k and half the tread had gone.

Do they still make the bloody things do you suppose?

I wouldn't have thought so, my brothers James Captain has one on front and that's from the 1960's all you have to do is look at them and realise, Oh ****, I'm probably going to die :D

James Captain, wow that takes me back, the very first bike I owned was a Captain that had been cnverted to what we used to call a scrambler.

Haha what a coincidence, my dads first bike was a captain too, only problem with it is by todays standards, its horrifically slow, even slower than my defender :D but I dont suppose they were that bad in the day

I love old british bikes but you really can't ride them every day. Once you have ridden a modern jap bike the old stuff is for polishing and looking at rather than riding.

Very true, I have a Yamaha TY175 for the field but I dont think I'm going to get a road bike, too many nutters about :D Im after a TY250 though, bit bigger
