Has anybody on here cross drilled the input gear on the transfer box.
I know Ashcrofts do a replacment gear to fit in there. I have a spare one that i cross drilled so i know it's not too hard to drill, just trying to save £50 quid on a new one ?
I don't know if they have been heat treated after, I don't want to drill it and it breaks the rest of the box

Aye you can do them yourself.

Drill it, debur it and put it in, you have not changed the metal by drilling it.

I know it's not going to change the metal but i didn't want to make it so weak it breaks.
It makes good reading thanks for that, all i have to do now is wait for it to get warmer so i can cycle to work and i'll get it drilled out

My input gear has had it so I will need to buy one and do it in the better weather.

I also appreciate the output shaft will probably be worn so I will sort it all out in one go - Ashcrofts here I come.

the tranny box is simple, very simple, whereas the gearbox is a much bigger task - but if your logical about things give it a go

every man should have rebuilt a gearbox before they die
