Hello, I am fitting a new camshaft pulley to my L series td4 and getting confused as to the phases of angle tightening and aligning having never done this before. I have my Haynes for a guide but getting lost in the finer details, can anyone help please?

Looks like you have a 2005 TD4. Which is a TD4, not an L Series. The L Series is the Rover L Series engine used up to 2000, the TD4 is the Kraut M47 which replaced it.

Oh ok cheers, I did know it was the m47 engine actually not sure now why I now thought it was the L series! Looking but not reading probably . Thanks for the clarification all the same.

Tippex is your friend here! Tighten to 100Nm then mark line on bolt and lines on pulley as follows: one in line with line on bolt. One at 60 degrees, another at 60 degrees from previous mark and a last on 30 degreess from the third mark. So 4 marks. Then tighten to mark 2 then 3 then 4. You'll need a tool to hold the pulley from turning or jam ring gear as Haynes says....I don't like doing that at these torques in case sommat slips and your knuckles get trimmed back to finger width! Good luck.
