Ok having been told my Front crankshaft oil seal has gone , I've decided to have a go a doing the job myself . I'm ok with the spanners and i will have the help from my mate who's a mechanic, abeit a commercial one .

Is there any special tool's that I'll need or any pit falls to be wary of during the fix ? I take it I'll have to replace the timing belt while its off etc but is it worth putting on a Gen LR one or are pattern one's just as good ?

Cheers in advance guy's ;)

hello if your changing belt make sure you buy a modyfied timeing belt kit i didnt and the result was top engine rebilled twice after 100 miles

Thats because yur a plonker. Like burning the toast twice.

might have been done already and might not require it, and might be one that doesnt need it my 96 didnt but do a check, and dont buy a britpart belt if they do one that is, I dont think the dealers are any different from a good make of belt, I have fitted many to vehicles and very seldom dealer ones. I usually change the tensioner aswel, but buy a kit and it should come with all the bits you need.

The timing cover bolts are all different sizes so stick em through carboard, and the fan is a left hand thread to get it off, and when you are in there make sure the key in the crank is ok, they have been known to go.

so sorry ill keep quite then just offering freindley advice you numpty:blabla::blabla::blabla::blabla:

Take it easy fella , I'll take any advice thrown my way ;) I will check if it's had a mod too , think it has tbh , as the belts were replaced in the last service (6000k) ago . Was serviced at a specialist and looking at what they charged , I think that the crown jewels were installed somewere

Probably most of us ???

Fit a **** belt from britpart and you bend a few valves who cares, think of the positive side and how much fun you will have taking the head off in the ****ing rain and freezing cold of winter, magic stuff.

Infact I think I will take mine off for fun "right now" nakid. If I can remember there is some long jaggy nettles in the field next to my house might be more fun there wif the cows to keep me company.

Yippee yayee rambo.

Ps you dont happen to have a bow aswel do you, just taken up archery but I think a recurve rather than one of them things you probably have wif the campfladge.

:D:D:D.........the naked bit worries me though

Anyway , stripped it all down , not as hard as it appeared to be , it's only nuts and bolts  . . Took the intercooler+inlet manifold off for a cleaning while I was at it . My Oh my it's gunky

That old egr valve that you havent bypassed??

Yeah I removed it . Got shut of the useless bit of sh1t . I've been upto my fetlocks in parafin and disolved oil gunk since cleaning inlet manifold , intercooler and all the pipe work.

On another note , I received all my parts from Paddock today , do they ever manage to get an order right ? This is twice I've used them and twice they've sent some wrong items ?? I ordered an OE LandRover front cranshaft oil seal , they've sent a Britpart one . Is it worth sticking in or will I end up doing the same job in a few months time because of the Britpart item ?????

I personally wont use britpart stuff again, I dont think its very good. I guess if its a load of work getting in there then best to fit a good part.

Ok all fixed now . Took my time with it , between down pours  . Basically with the step by step instructions given to me , it was a quite an easy job . I've never done one before so once I assembled everything , connected the battery and fired her up , I waited for the whole thing to explode:eek: ....... however all was well . Drive's fine now the inlet manifold , intercooler and pipework are clean , my there was some gunk in there

Big thanks for everyone for their help
