Please can someone help?
I bought one of these filters for our 05 54 td4 freelander 1 as we are experiencing blue smoke on startup. We asked our local landrover approved garage to fit it but they said it was the wrong part as it was too big and would interfere with the air filter. Existing part only half the size.

Is this correct? If not, can someone point me in the direction of a step by step guide to fitting it so that I can do it myself.

Thanks:confused:

Thanks Dippypud. Managed to fit it ourselves no problem. Freelander ran brilliant for about 3 months, no blue smoke on start up, no miss when cold, no engine noise, absolutely like different vehicle. Lovely. Unfortunely it did not last and all symptoms have returned. Had it to garage and they have ran various test which have come back all ok. Don't know where to go next, looking for advice please

and all symptoms have returned

what symptoms? .. just this as in heading post? .. or more ..

as we are experiencing blue smoke on startup

in the crankcase vent system .. apart from a filter ..
or the bmw oil separator ..
there's also a valve that can get gunked up .. and stick ..
if it does stick .. then symptoms same as a clogged LR crankcase vent filter ..

can be checked by removing the vent housing 'n looking inside at the valve ..
they can be cleaned out ( the housing and bmw bit ) by using white spirit ..

did the garage check the injectors with their various tests ?
and the operation of the glow plugs ( cylinder pre-heaters ) ?
