Cracked manifold

My 109 petrol has developed a crack in the exhaust manifold. (I wondered why I could smell fumes in the cab) mine doesnt have the exhaust shield plate so when I replace the manifold, is it worth adding a shield. Mine has run ok without it for years, I spose its purpose is to deflect heat away from the carb.
Having looked on ebay fora manifold Ive noticed that second hand shields can go for over £30, seems a !ot for a bit of bent tin.

My shield is currently off the engine so if you want pics or measurements of it let me know as should be simple to make your own if you want to go that way

Thanks I will. Its amazing how the price of used series parts are these days, awhile ago I was seeing manifolds for about £10 now they are three times that. Im wondering if I should buy new but Im worried about the quality of new parts.

I bought a new manifold about 18 months ago from these guys - https://www.landroverspares.co.uk/index.php/petrol-manifold-4-cyl.html - and it seems solid. Certainly fitted well and is heavy enough! Haven't had any issues with it But I've not done that many miles since it was fitted (different issue kept me off the road) and it was £45+vat. Used parts do seem to be similar to new these days in terms of prices and unless you're sure exactly what you're buying I'm always worried i'll end up with the same brand spare just already worn for little to no saving...
Give me a shout if and when you need any pics - can't see me re-fitting the heat shield for a while yet as have some other bits i want to do before putting everything back together.
