1, people are always saying a 4x4 should not be used in 4wd mode on tarmac, yet I thought disco's and the like were permanant 4wd, so how does that work?

2, has the freelander section gone soft???
once upon a time if any new members with 1 post count asked questions, they would get a barrage of replies saying to do an introduction post, now they just get answers

because disco has 3 open diffs you can drive in 4wd on the road ,center diff lock is lockable but not best to do when travelling on the road ,a series 3 has no center diff lock so is used in 2wd on the road as many other 4x4s

Seem to be a lot more newbies doing this lately...Get the answer they want and then never heard from again until another problem arises.
Englishbull is usually on the ball with an "intro first before answers" comment but he has probably got fed up with leading the cause!

No problem with helping, but what established members get ****ed off about is newbies coming on asking for help and then never posting again.
If you join a forum it's only polite to introduce yourself, get involved and give something back.

so you lot dont like new people asking for help then? friendly place this inst it:eek:
Your supposed to say hello first in the introduction section = 1 post used.

After that you are welcome to ask away but first try and search the site for your answers as nearly every question has been covered before, members get a bit fed up of answering the same questions over and over again.

We are very friendly once you get to know us :)

I did seconds after I joined! I asked then I introduced myself straight after. even though it was only a matter of seconds I still had folks having a pop at me. And i know the op is is talking about me its not like I joined and asked a stupid question either some people are so far up there own ar#ses its unbelievable. Im a member of oldskool ford, rdlccrazy & the miniforum and I have lots to offer. I have never on any forum experienced anything like it.

Generally the Newbies only introduce themselves in the post were they are asking for answers on questions that they have clearly not done a search on , and all too often when what they are asking is also a "live" thread on the page they just posted their question on. I think the regular time served members have just got fed up of banging their heads against a brick wall telling these guys to "do a search" as it often falls on deaf ears, with people who will not become regular posters or even bother to report back with whether the answer cures their problems....................
Obviously this is not ALL newcomers, but there seems to be a growing trend where people post, without introducing themselves or searching first, get their answer and bugger off never to return.

my post was in no way aimed at you, but all the new members of late that cant be arsed to introduce themselves first, so your reply implicating Im referring to you, shows your second sentence more in your keeping, you admit yourself to asking a question first, be it seconds before an intro post, wish I could type that fast

I too am a member and moderator on many other forums, does that make us "special friends" and those forums are no different to this, new members wanting shooting permission without so much as a how's your father, and when it's not handed to them on a plate, funnily enough they never post again

perhaps it's just me, grumpy old git, in future I will do more to bend over backwards for everyone without knowing anything about them, I mean, it really is a bit much off me to expect people to have manners and introduce themselves

so I will

give any info I can freely on any subject
give out shooting permissions, left, right and center
give away free swarms of bee's
give the shirt off my back
will that make new members on every forum happy and think what a great bunch we are?????

doubtful

oh, and just to prove my point johnnyspencer, look through all of your 11 posts, you'll see I have not replied to any of your posts, now take a few minutes of your time to look through other new members post's, and you'll see I posted on theirs, telling them to introduce themselves first, and so you still think this was aimed solely at YOU, or all new members in general, your not that special are you

Newbies dont automatically know what to do on here.
