you have to have a mot type thing to see if it was done right that costs over 500 i think and my m8 rrc is the mutts nuts

I think you're on about an SVA which doesn't cost £500 and would only apply if the chassis was radically altered.

Most bobtails don't need an SVA/

WLM I can't see the back end been that much lighter. probably less than 50kg Adrian Flux or similar is probably best for insurance.

I think he means an "Engineers report" which is like a very detailed MOT, which the DVLA and most insurance companies will insist on.

Modified/Competition Vehicle engineers’ reports are on vehicles that have been modified or altered from their original specifications. Vehicle Reports help clarify what upgrades and modifications have been carried out, assessing the engineering and quality of the work involved and how it affects the vehicle. Often a ‘must’ when insuring the vehicle for use.

cheers red...i will be installing a rear winch underneath, and a tubular bumper and custom swingaway carrier and spare wheel so that should put a bit of weight back on..

Without wishing to be contraversial, I'm not sure why you think most bobtails don't need an SVA except that this has now been replaced by the IVA which does cost £500+. If you Google 'bobtail SVA' or 'Bobtail IVA' you can find loads of stuff on this subject, most of it depressing:frown:

Unless things have changed recently, if you chop a section out of the chassis, even outside the wheelbase, DVLA consider this a 'radical chassis modification' and that means you need an IVA. Of course it's stupid, I wish it wasn't the case but there is no point going to the trouble of building a bobtail, only to find you can't use it on the road without forking out loads more dosh.

As far as skittishness goes, think about it. Is a 90 skittish? The weight loss is probably less than the difference between a full and half full petrol tank!

For insurance, I have always found Sureterm Direct good to deal with. At least they know what a bobtail is:)

Cheers

Chris
