Morning

would anyone have an idea what is happening to my Freelander 2 litre TD4 2006 when driving all fine but around the 40 and 70 mph mark it starts to cough - doesn't loose power - just seems to cough its way past 40 mph and then its ok again - the same when approaching 70 mph cough cough then all ok.
Had new fuel pump and then reconditioned injectors May last year.
Also drove home in torrential rain the other night and now its stuck! Handbrake seems to come off but wheels wont budge - should I just keep revving to unstick it??
Thanks.

Once after retrieving my boat and parking up overnight the rear brakes seized.

Gave it a few revs, up on clutch (not fast and not to slow) and it released.... with a big BANG.

Lots of people have experienced the rear brakes seizing and I'm sure, the way to remove it is just by moving the car under power.

thanks - its automatic but same principal I suppose - just have to wait for neighbour to move their car before I give it a go! Or just do it in reverse.

Reverse slowly but with a few revs using the left foot on the brake at the same time, once released get the drums off and give them a good clean out, more so the expander.

thanks I'll go give it a whirl now - not mechanical at all so wouldn't know where to begin getting the drums off and the expander :)

I had someone look is my TD4 SE auto last night. Of course I put the HB on I parked it up in March (I don't normally bother with the HB), so the RH rear brake had stuck on. I just rocked it between 1st and reverse, given it a bit more power each time until the brake freed off. Of course the chap who came to look, decided the rear brakes were faulty, so probably won't want to buy it.

worked a treat thanks - any idea on the cough??

Check the rail sensor for corrosion on the contacts.

If nothing is found there, then I'd be tempted to put a double strong dose of Comma Diesel Magic in the tank and see if that cares the misfire.

ordered some Comma Diesel Magic give that a try - cheers.
still coughing - despite 2 lots of diesel Magic and the pricey diesel! It coughs and chucks out a bit of smoke although doesn't seem to be getting worse - also recently had a service but don't think they actually test drive it to check how it's running!
Any ideas much appreciated - thanks

Hi. Mine is automatic too. I had little jerks around 1800rpm. I think the jerks have nothing to do with speed but are always reproduced at the same RPM, right?
I cleaned the injectors with ultrasound, it solved the problem but it appeared again after a short time. Without thinking, I ordered 4 nozzles (very cheap, for the price of 1 original I put all 4). I was sure it's dirt. Change of washers and gaskets.
Now it goes like new, without jerks or smoke.
