Frustrated American here! My clutch on the rover just stopped working. We replaced the master and slave cylinder. How much for the clutch assembly?

Err if your in usa the rover renovations or British Atlantic
expect to pay 80-100 pounds and what ever equivalent is in dollars.

You sure the plates worn out, you say the clutch is not working, is it permanently engaged or slipping?.
If its permanently engaged then if you've replaced the master and slave cyl, suspect the release brg and lever, you dont have to change the weary bits, but seeing as its a bit of a bugger to do might be a good idea.

Or try adjustin' the push rod on the master cylinder if it or the slave has been changed...... but then again, ye might have it sorted by now. If so, what was the outcome?

Hi,

Sent you a PM.

What exactly is your problem? Pedal goes down, clutch doesn't release? Sticky plate? Easy to fix.

Pedal goes down, but feels soft, clutch doesn't release enough? Various reasons, need to know more.

Grab pedal, pull back. Did it move? Does pedal feel better NEXT time you use it? Stiff pedal .... fitting return spring may fix it. Might mean strip out pedal box, and free everything off. (Do S3 have a pedal box? I've never looked)

Pedal is solid, won't move. Could be slave piston stuck at bottom of travel, in which case you will (should) have no drive. But more likely to be the push-rod has punched its way thru the release lever inside clutch ...... gearbox out job. Ask me about my gearbox lifting tool. Worst bit could be removing the floor and seatbox ....... rusty nuts and bolts.

HTH

Hi,

Just in case ......... pull yellow knob right back, try driving. If it drives NOW, its because the transfer box was in neutral. Red face, but you are not the first.

Just make sure that you push the yellow knob right forward. HARD.

Hi sean,

I stand corrected. I can't remember ever pulling a gearbox off a S3, but I've read that this is a commom problem on Dicos (Defenders too?). But if it can't happen, then the symptoms I described can't happen either.

There was a similar problem recently mentioned on the S2 Club forum. It turned out that one bit had broken of the master cylinder, so it was only held on with one bolt. MC wobbled a bit, bent the MC push rod, which jammed, and wouldn't return.

Lets have the exact symptoms.
