Cooling System Pressurising

Right head gasket done, pressure/compression test etc all fine, engine runs fine, but after a few miles the cooling system is pressurising enough to burst the hose to the heater matrix.

Any thoughts?

Sticky thermostat? Temporarily remove and see if problem persists.

Well if they have bodged it they will have to put it right or suffer the consequences. To be fair the garage I am using is a fair sized independent who have a reputation for being fairly honest, so I don't have much worries in that area, just that they can't seem to find the problem.

Should do,but not if weak with age or had oil in them.
I'd do an HC sniff test over the expansion tank with the cap off before doing anything else.
 
Garage changed all the heater/vapouriser pipes which is where the pipe burst and can't find anything wrong with her. Had her back today, did just over 120 miles no dramas, main coolant pipes firm not solid, no swelling on the smaller pipes. So perhaps it was just an airlock and/or knackered pipes. We'll see, got a trip to High Wycombe next weekend.

Ok she is still not right, chatting to the friend who followed us at the weekend and he said he was surprised at how much white smoke she put out, checked the water nearly 2 pints gone took her out this morning and sure enough clouds of white smoke far more than a cold engine should generate. The question is why, all pressure tests are OK, no hydrocarbons in the coolant, yet it appears that coolant is getting into the engine??? I have a good mind to tell them just to put in a recon engine and be done with it.

lol thats what we thought about our last garage and our engine was worse than when it went.......

yes your cap might be seized too


itll most likely be a pourus or slipped liner

This was their initial diagnosis but on stripping it down they found the hg gone between no 7 and the water gallery (I have the evidence), to be fair to them the problem is intermittent, yesterday clouds of smoke/steam enough to obscure the view behind the car, today when I took it down to the garage nothing, even hammering it not a hint at all of any problems.
 
Could there be coolant in the exhaust still from the headgasket failure,
Causing white smoke now and again ?
Does it run ok ? miss firing ? down on power ?
