it could be the sensor has gone check it/them by taking a wire of your battery but be careful especially with your fingers also do you have two as I think only air con ones had two fans but I could be mistaken if a wire of the battery makes them work then the obvious thing to go for would be the sensor unless the engine is not getting hot enough

It has twin fans two speed for the aircon it works on low speed wen the aircon is on..changed the sender hi speed not working
 
now are you on about the cooling fans in the engine compartment or those in your in cab heater if its in the heater then your resistors have gone and are easily replaceable and you can get them of ebay
 
More information on the vehicle is needed, like what engine is it?. But in general, the fan is controlled by the ECU, using data from the coolant sensor.
 
Does the distributor have something to do with it
No. It just helps me identify the ECU type fitted.
You cooling fan is controlled by the ecu. This takes engine temperature from one of the two coolant senors fitted to the top hose outlet.
Why do you think there's a problem with the fans not running correctly. You have AC and switching it on makes the fans run at a slow speed. So this proves the ECU is driving the fans under AC conditions. There's no reason to assume it's not going to do the same when the engine is hot enough.

My temp never goes above half way but the engine is real hot you can feel the heat with the bonnet shut don't want to cook my new head g. The gage is only showing half way would that stop them coming on. I'm thinking is that sender gone

There are 2 temperature sensors fitted to that engine. One for the gauge and the other for the engine ECU. If the engine temp sensor gives a temperature reading outside a pre-determined tolerance. The ECU puts the fans on full speed. So you can test the system, simply by unplugging the engine coolant sensor. The ECU assumes a fault and puts the fans on. I can't remember the exact MEMS 1.9 set-up. It could have a relay that drives the fan under ECU control. But unplugging the sensor should put the fans on, if the system is working correctly.
