reet, on the idea of leccy fans........should i remove the viscous and put a switch on the 2 aircons fans i have???? gotta be good as any kenloew aint it? never use the aircon anyway, think maybe twice in 2 years cause i am far too tight ;)
one of the dilema's is the wonder of is it better to suck in through the rad or blow through???
all thoughts mroe then welcome. thanks lads.

Dunt see why not. Mate took the fan of her disco last year and it;s been running without a fan ever since. It got slightly over the middle of the gauge once and that was on a long steep hilly section in a traffic jam when it was sweltering hot. So you could probably manage without the aircon fans. But it's nice to have something in reserve for emergencies. I'd go for sucking over blowing  anytime but that's just personal taste:)

yer but mine like to sit at half way, well just under naturally now. you know what its like when off roading on long hills temp wise on em, done about 100 miles now with 2 tdi lumps in the back and it dont seem to wanna get hot hot unless i boot it a few mile.

even then its just creeps over half. i think i am beeing paranoid but i like to keep it in tip top condition and if it ever needs anything it gets it. you know yerself how much i look after it from doing the milage we done at easter. its also running the correct compression on all 4, water system ahs been checked and is sound as a pound, just sits hotter since tuning and i dont like the idea.

Yep hers never gets used offroad. and Like it say it never gets hot. But for offroading an extra insurance in place is always worth it if only for the peace of mind you get, knowing you can flick the fans on if you need em. I suppose you could always stick a fan from a mondeo or a pug 405 over the rad, and have that wired up to a dash switch.

if ya use the air con fans for cooling might be an idea to remove the air-con condeser so the fans are directly onto the rad. Should get more cooling from them that way.

i found the same thing with mine , i took the original fan off and fitted an electric one , but it rarely comes on .... i have the leccy one on a switch now just incase tho..

Might be a daft question..... but why would you want to remove the viscus fan and replace with elecy one??

A good few people have said this to me but I dont get the advantage of electric fans. Surly its just another motor to fook up when you plough through the river?

coz the voiscoius one is "on" all the time and is unnecessary and cant be turned off if yu go through a river and is using a (very small amount) of injun BHP to drive it. an electric fan only comes on when necessary, can be turned off (is usually off anyway) and only takes power when needed.

That's part of the point. You can switch it off when you wade so it dun't throw water all around yer injun bay, plus your injun int driving it (directly) so it isn't leaching power from it, plus viscous units often eventually sieze up so the fan will be turning constantly whether your injun needs cooling or not.

and when yer get round to fitting a thermo switch like those nice x-eng ones make sure you fit in the hose coming outta the xxx of yer rad and not the xxx

;)

i've gorra good mind to get that spare disco front light harness outta me garage and wave it under yer nose
