which landrover?

and what do you mean taking everything out? the thermostat is hold by 3 bolts and sits on top of the engine on the front.

Only two bolts if it's a TDi 300 !! Acccording to his profile it's a Disco II, but don't know if it's petrol or deisel.
 
In that case it's just a matter of separating the plastic thermostat unit from the three rubber pipes, putting a new one in and then refilling the coolant.

Great thanks, I thought that you had to drain the system and then take out the Viscous coupling before you could do anything, many thanks ;)

As I said in my post it's a TD5 year 2000.

The thermostat is not on top of the engine unfortunately but at the bottom of the radiator and you have to drain the system then take out the cooling fan viscous coupling,then out with the cooling fan lower coupling etc ;).......that was why I wondered if there were any shortcuts :eek:

Are you sure about that?:confused: If you lay underneath it you should be able to do it without all the grief of taking everything off. Unfortunately a side effect is that yer gonna get wet when you pull the pipes off.:rolleyes:

Yeah positive I've had a good look with the top cover off :eek:.........ah well better get the cossie out then :eek:
