Not 100% sure but I was once told that some coolant especially if mixed has a tendency to deteriorate seals......Perhaps someone else can confirm this to be the case or not.

There are various different antifreeze mixtures.
One is oats, organic based (normally red or green)
The other is Methanol based traditional blue coloured anti freeze.
The modern oat anti freeze has different additives for the aluminium parts of the engine.
What you can do is mix the modern two if desperate but you should normally keep to the same type.
What you can't do is mix the old with the new.
It sort of jellifies and blocks the water ways stopping the water from cooling and the engine then either over heats or corrodes the aluminium more quickly.
The only way to swap over is to completely flush out what ever is in the system and refill it.
