Hi, I have a V8 Disco, the coolant level appears to fluctuate, sometimes I will go to the car and it is pretty low, not empty however. Then other times will be fairly high. Is this normal? Can see no apparent leaks and done the usual checks for HG failure.

Just curious really.

Thanks
Ryan

There will be a small amount of fluctuation when the coolent temperature is cold or hot , but there something wrong if its a you describe.
What is fairly high, is it coolent the correct level when cold?
Has the coolent been replace recently? if so air has been trapped within the system maybe, hard to do on a V8 disco if refilled slowly.

Thanks for this. When I purchased the car they had carried out a service on it.

Coolant looks new, very pink but the level does fluctuate. If there is air in the system is it easy to rectify?

Yes but then i've done it once or twice, but better not to let it enter in the first place :)

You will find all the info in the LR workshop manual for the D2 V8, or the Haynes manual, but basically its refill slowly till the flow of coolant is emitted from the bleed hole with the expansion tank raised up by 8 inches, continue filling the system reaches the base of the expansion tank filler neck.. the exact step by step details are in the LR manual which can be down loaded I believe.

Thanks both - hopefully nothing majorly wrong with it, will keep an eye on it and do what you suggest after following the manuals advice.
