Moving to London soon, anyone know how I can make my 300tdi engine compliant with the LEZ or how easy is it to convert to v8? Can I use my R380 with a V8?

do you need to pass it for the lez?Where are you getting yer info?

Phase 3 might not go ahead! I own a 90 300tdi which is compliant! You need to fight your case with DVLA. You will have to change the vehicle taxation class from N1(van) to M1(estate). Took me 3 months of letters to TFL and DVLA!

:)

I'm waiting too for the decision on the lez. R380 will fit to V8 but apparently you may need to change input shaft in the gearbox (depending on serial number) and a bell housing. Other alternative is a particulant trap. You can aleays shout and hastle the dvla to change its catagory, make them work for a change!.:)

This guy can make a system if req'd

Cheers all for the advice. All info from the Transport for London website where they have a compliance checker. My 1995 300Tdi van is only compliant up to Oct 10.
Will try nagging the DVLA, sounds good as a 300Tdi Disco is compliant??? Other than that it looks like a V8's gonna get fitted.

Your best hope is probably to nag the DVLA. But the tfl website also states that if you think your vehicle is wrongly classified you can register it with tfl.
The reason for all this is that the air quality in London is very poor and there will be masive fines from the EU if they can't improve it.

Not strictly speaking correct, the input shaft and bell housing will line up with the V8 and the R380 will do just fine behind it, but the engine position will need to change slightly. It usually works out cheaper to move the engine position, by a large margin.
