Might seem like a stupid idea but has anyone ever converted a TD4 Mk1 automatic to manual?
I've seen a nice 2002 at a good price but the missus won't entertain the idea of an auto.
Alternatively if anyone could tell me how to convert the missus that would make a whole lot more sense.

Wonder could I convert her into Anna Kournikova? Bet she drives an auto.

Funny that, Anna Kournikova was on Graham Norton the other day saying how desperate she was to find a man who could provide her with an automatic Freelander. She said she'd shag him till his knob fell off if such a man existed.

Dirty old sort that Kournikova.

Most big jobs on an older vehicle are not worth it......

It is one thing to replace an engine using one from an auto into a manual retaining the manual gearbox.... It is another thing altogether to convert a car from automatic to manual....

You would need a donor vehicle ideally for all the parts that are different, and or missing....As a quick rough and dirty and not exhaustive list,

Gearbox, gear linkage, pedal box, master cylinder slave cylinder, flywheel. Clutch, gearbox mounts. Driveshafts possibly, centre console, possibly wiring loom and ECUs, (if you change the ecu then you will need the keys that are programmed, then either the chips swapped between the original key and the replacement or the entire lock set replaced,

Oh and if you can't do the work yourself, a big chunk of money to a garage to cover a lot of hours labour!

I am still trying not to think about that picture......... But it is imprinted on my brain...

Gotta go and ..... Well anyway excuse me....

Oh Bollix!
I didn't read this until now and when I contacted her some other Freelander automatic owning b'stard beat me to it. :(

Can't help having the odd wee sneaky peek at it though. When the missus ain't looking of course. :)

I kinda thought of some of those things myself and already decided it was a no go.
I guess if you were looking for a project to do for fun it might be ok but not really practical. My big brother converted an auto Mk3 Cortina to manual when I was a nipper but it would have been a much simpler job.
