Hi all, I'm a new member to the site looking for some help from all you experianced Land Rover boys and girls. I'm a military mechanic serving in Germany and am looking for some help with a problem encountered yesterday whilst driving a military spec Land Rover 'Wolf' from England to Germany.
The vehicle had broken down in the UK with power loss problems. The fault was diagnosed as an FIP fault which was subsequently changed. However, on driving the vehicle to Germany yesterday, I encountered repeated loss of power, accompanied by black and grey smoke, with the engine power dying off to nothing. This first occurred after 60 miles of trouble free journey. After pulling up to investigate, the power returned and I was able to carry on for approx 30 miles when the fault reoccured. Again after pulling over and switching off, the power came back and i continued on. The fault then reoccurred about every 30 mins. i found if I stopped for 10 mins each time i could then resume the journey.Help!!!

Sounds like fuel problems I had. I would change the diesel filter first.
Mine was gunged up with emulsified veg oil/diesel. It melted when I stopped the engine and the heat built up under the bonnet. Started and ran fine for a while then I got a total loss of power again.

Cheers for that. the Rover spent a year in Afghanistan before being freighted back so may well have suffered emulsification due to temp variations from -20 to + 50 whilst it was there.
