Further to my initial compressor thread https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/12v-compressor-recomendations.341676/

I've been planning my on board air installation and I think I've got my line runs figured but I am deliberating the hose fittings, modern me thinks that the plastic push fit fittings will be fine but old fashioned belt and braces me is thinking that brass compression fittings with inserts and olives.

150psi max pressure but it won't be full time.

Anyone wanna share their build and or preference?

And what about pipe from compressor to the tank?

I think that the tank and the compressor will be mounted on a bar and strap custom frame and mounted to the body using isolation mounts.

That in mind, should I use plastic/nylon or can I use 3/8 cupronickle with a couple of stress loops in in it to let it flex a little?

Hi mate

I used all pushfit through out , I got these brass ones for my valve blocks , compressor , struts

https://www.advancedfluidsolutions....ass-push-fit-straight-stud-fitting-2875-p.asp

Alas don’t know what size ur using but preferred these over the plastic ones , plus compression fittings ur also have to mess around with inserts, found it considerably easier with the pushfits because I wasn’t messing around in tight spaces with a spanner

Personally would use plastic pipe instead of the copper , less chance of fracture, less rattle , copper would req more fixings clips

Ref the isolation pads , the rubber vibration mats used under shower pumps are very good

Also a link of other fittings

Hope it helps and look forward to the piccies plse, thks

Pushfits are rated for 10 bar all day long and use the nylon tube with it. No need to chamfer it (the tube) just cut it square without squishing the end with a sharp blade (not scissors, side cutters etc). You can get a proper nylon tube cutter but that's just for speed., Not neccesary for your job.
I've fitted thousands of pushfits.
Wet the cut end with spit just before inserting.
Obviously keep stuff away from high temperatures like exhaust parts.

For vibration mounts for the pump you could go old school and use classic mini exhaust cotton reel mounts they are also often used to mount fuel pumps
as Gary said plastic pipe work but don't forget to put a small chamfer on the end with a pencil sharpener to ease fitting.

I have very similar on my air filter installation, got them in Halfrauds if memory serves correct, ta for the link, these are much cheaper!

That’s a great idea ref the mini reel mounts

These were the type I useto use

Just my ten pennyworth which has nothing to do with mobile air but pneumatically controlled process machinery. Plastic air pipe usually comes in different wall thicknesses and always use the thickest you can get - in time, the thinner stuff stretches and a) bursts and b) becomes to wide to 'remake a broken joint or repair a burst.

I use plastic and metal push fit fittings with industrial machinery and rate them really highly. polyurethane 8mm OD 6mm will be fine. Just be careful of high temps, and possible kinks if you are routing over moving parts. Also plastic is good as you can cut and modify on the fly for very little cost, adding an in line guage or valve in seconds is great for trouble shooting.

Sounds like a cool project you are working on. Looking forward to seeing how it goes

Well my tank has turned up and I've got it ready to take with me to work so I can go and get some fittings for it as I am too lazy to get my thread gauges out LOL

I was hoping to go for 10mm OD 8mm ID for the higher flow rate as the tyres are massive

I have a few sketches for the tank and pump cradle, gonna mock it up in wooden dowels first so I can avoid wasting time and materials.

Will certainly be in my build thread and in my blog :) (there is a link in my siggy for anyone interested ;))
