Do you intend on using this for competition i.e trials or just p&p and greenlaning etc??

Very different things Wide arches and indeed 285 75 16's are most deffo not going to help when trialing despite how "GOOD" they look.

As for steering lock a 90 is the worse of the swb group of vehicles you will be trialling against and adding wide tyres and losing steering lock plus gaining an extra 4 inches width with wide arches you really are not helping yourself when trialing.

depends what yu want.

Your question related to competition tyres and trialing hence my answers if you just wanted wide yanky style super fat wide tyres then I would say fit 285's.

lol i run 37s that are 12.5" wide... never been found lacking for lock in even the tightest woodland...i say youve ended up with bigger tyres for less money... just fit um... they will help you get over obstacles better.
your worrying too much about ****all

I beg to differ IF your motor is the one I've seen I have seen that video.......... one which many greenlane people have been most upset about and the anti's posting on their forums.

Anyway playing and Trialing is very different things I als have 37 inch tyres (measured) on my road motor and the lock is awful trialing you will be laughed at!!! Plus they are not within regs.

Not many forumers actually compete...........................

forgot to say im running a salisbury rear axle and 4.7:1 ratio diffs instead of 3.54:1 so my low range is quite low steep hill climbs are usually 3rd low and some times run out of revs on long climbs but tis only a 200tdi.

the V8 should be fun when I get it re tagged and ready to roll hopefully in a few weeks bring on CCV and local twisty comp safaris

if its got megasquirt then yes far better than a diesel

rpm drops to 550 rpm and will not stall pulls from 550rpm all the way up. A TDI will not pull from really low revs and will shudder and die at anything near 800RPM. The v8 is far more versatile.

when cost of every day running TDI every time. Play motor a good V8.

not an old spunky v8. My bri has rebuilt mine went in last weekend will head to Pirtek to get an oil pipe made up prime and she could be started up

just looking for a megajolt for mine, got the edis8, vr, and coils. still does water.

in the video it was on 265 75s and outurned a standard Td5 90... and still does with the bigger rubber... what im saying to James is that hes got the rubber cheap and should just use what hes got as it has advantages when clearing obstacles.

regards the video it was 2 miles down a greenlane that was meant to be passable... however any possible passing spaces were few and far between... the tree had grown into the path of the vehicles and would of collided with the screen and top of the roof.
we removed the tree the best we could with the equipment availiable and only just managed to turn the convoy round.
we did minimal damage to the lane and surroundings and to proceed further up the track would of lead to camel trophy style bush clearing... shame a lane had become so overgrown when it was a nice route with a few small obstacles up to that point.

Not arguing on here its not the place. Its been done to death on several forums.

Tyres with competition you need to stick to their regulations. Wide tyres are some people preference (not mine) but the use of spacers can come within regs and cause more problems. Competing you need to keep your motor in tip top cond and keep well within the regs. 60 years plus of trialling experience is out to be had usually for free turn up enjoy don't believe what I say, ask the club and ask the old boys in their tweed jackets because they have seen all the "tweeks" and mods that have come and gone over the years. Few they use and Few give a huge improvement.

33 inch tyre with a width around 750 235 is about as good as it gets remove your lock stops completly (if your club allows you to rub against suspension somponents) then you can gain by experience of locking the spinning wheel against the radius arm (Carefully as this can break diffs) but more importantly gain max lock.

Not many Td5s have their lock stops set to max let alone removed.

Main thing is enjoy your day.

Any time you want info people will help you and suggest ways of increasing performance. The one thing that will improve is getting in there and having a go. An experienced driver that knows his vehicle will always out drive noobies in fandangled motors I go back to my sig "you can bull **** alot in life nobody can bull**** experience."

get out there and have fun!
