I can be more specific, as we've got a freelander with the prop off, and the shaft out of the IRD with signs of damage.

The teeth look like they've been chewing on something, but it isn't obvious what just yet, and I wondered if folk have opened them up and actually found out what has bust before sending them back to redeem the surcharge?

Incidentally, the shaft into the IRD box had approx 15% of rotational play/slack - which doesn't seem right to me!?

How much should there be - if any?

Cheers in advance

C'mon chaps, you can't all of just handed over the reddies to replace the VCU/IRD units without be a bit curious - can you??

hi

ref the ird i believe that specialist tools etc are required to work on them and if purchasing the tools for a one off repair is going to out way buying one fully reconditioned

ashcroft engineering i hear are suppose to be the dogs nuts with repairs etc and maybe they could answer u with regards to reconditioning kits , but expect there quiet complex and need setting up just right

ive got no experience with these units and imagine there are far more experienced guys here that could tell u maybe what the normal part that needs to be replaced

if the vcu begins to fail and if left can the. chew up the ird and rear diff,

if u do a search ashcroft engineering will have a link or google them

dont know if that helps at all

Thanks for your replies guys.
We've had a look at both suppliers, and I think the old man is going to fit a 2wd conversion from bell, or buy a recon ird from The Gentlemen of Salvage, as I can't find anything to put me us off them, and they seem to know what they're doing.
Cheers
