Commercial or 3 door Freelander

Morning all,

I currently have a 2005 Peugeot 206 Van 1.4HDI but its a little on the small side. Spotless van with 89k on the clock, never had a problem, drives fantastic etc etc but space is now becoming an issue.

I want something a little bigger but not really a box van. I have been thinking of a Freelander commercial or a 3 door (preferably diesel)

I have owned a couple of 1.8 K series. 1st one was a nice one, second one was a P.O.S

Anyone owned a commercial? They seem to be priced on the high side but decent looking (to me anyway) and i would have thought fairly economical if a diesel.

Other then a freelander I was thinking about an estate

i've a 2006 td4 'commercial'.. manual
used as a 'private' vehicle ..

same pros 'n cons as the passenger version

if i used it daily for urban deliveries ..
i don't think it would be my vehicle of choice from a running-cost/business point of view
( even though i get good mpg and it's a 'relaxing' vehicle to drive )
however .. for long distance .. rural areas .. hilly terrain .. all weathers .. all seasons ..
i'd consider it :)

for around town .. with lottsa space .. i'd consider something like a Kangoo / Berlingo
or similar .. .. Ford Transit Connect Minivan .. etc

two of us in our firm are running freelander commercials, bloody fantastic. more space than the littler vans like 206's, fiestas etc, really comfy for long journeys. good driving position.

td4 all the way. If you can find an auto even better.

bought mine with 36k on the clock, just gone over 103k now, no plans to change it anytime soon.

depending on what you do, shelving / racking is a worthwhile build around the edges.

oh, and the upside is, never lost a days money due to the weather !
 
Auto commercial.
Like a tardis in the back and a comfortable drive. My nippers argue who's turn it is to go out in this, they are not fussed about the Mercedes cars we also drive. :)

Averages around 36-38mpg mostly around town and that includes a bit of towing a hefty trailer.

My father has his eye on my one, so I'll get bugger all resale, but I believe the auto commercials hold residual value well..

Chris45 - what sort of mony should i be expecting to pay for a decent one - around 2002-2004 plate?

I have seen a few around and they all have a lot of mileage - realisticaly whats the engine good for for?

td4 everytime, if you can get a rare td4 auto even better (there are some, I've got one)

I drive my 10 year old TD4 with 130k miles on the clock everyday to and from work and I'm averaging 39mpg which is pretty good; she's still going very happily and I'm sure will last for many, many more. There are a fair few mods you can do (EGR, replace hoses, crankcase breather etc) that will eek out a few more mpg.

Mine is a 54 plate diesel, I paid £2500 for it with 107k on the clock & part dealer service history,

Last week I did a 230 mile trip on Motorway & only used £30 of fuel
