i have recently been driving a 2.8 pajero but miss my disco, so a reasonable machine has presented itself, its a disco 2 td5 w reg 72 thousand miles all the toys good allround condition, asking price £5700, what do you think and anything particular to look for.

Has it got a full service history, and are you buying from a dealer? (LR or otherwise) and is there any warranty being offered?

TD5's have a few regular problems: Oil on the engine loom and ECU plug, Dual-Mass flywheels breaking up, cracked cylinder heads (fuel in sump) and plastic dowels for the cylinder location which don't locate.

Apart from those, the normal Disco items apply re noisy transmission etc etc. You've had one before so should know the ropes.

just paid 5k for a year 2000 minter ES, so you might be able to knock em down a bit, 72k miles is low, so its prob worth payin the price if its a real nice one.
loads of times i've bought cheaper cars, but you're stuck with the niggling problems for a long time after you've forgotten about the few quid you've saved.

i was looking for a td5 only 6 weeks ago to replace my 300tdi r reg disco, but they were far too pricey! anything with reasonable mileage and sh was way over what i had to spend on a car,
so i ended up with a isuzu trooper, great car for towing BUT i miss the disco for fun and adventure it was second to none,
bu tthe tools have gone into retirement, an i now end up round the brother in laws to get my dirty hand fix, an over to a mates in chesterfeild to get my mud fix,
i'm noe looking for a cheap 90 to turn into an all out off roader i can tow around to p+p's with the troooper:D

i'm sooooo bored with out a landy:eek:

If your happy to pay the price, then go for it.
I always pay what I'm happy with, no to cars are the same, so prices are only a guide.
